Program detail
Entry routes, the progression from national candidate to national Course Leader, the modes of delivery, and the scope of ARCI provision.
For Federations & National Sports Organizations
ARCI works with national ski federations, Olympic committees and sports organizations to develop sustainable alpine ski race-coaching capacity. For countries where alpine athletes train internationally, or where race programs are developing faster than the local coaching structure, ARCI can provide a complete specialist education pathway from junior race coaching through FIS and high-performance environments.
The objective is to develop qualified national coaches who can progressively take responsibility for athlete development within their own country and federation.
ARCI combines international race-coaching education, practical on-snow training, assessment, season mentoring and long-term coach development with the existing national sports education structure.
ARCI does not replace the national federation, national licensing authority, Ministry of Sport, Olympic Committee, FIS development structure or existing national coach education. ARCI provides the specialist alpine ski race-coaching education, technical curriculum, international expertise, assessment, mentoring and progression framework that can be integrated into a national system. The long-term objective is national coaching capacity.
Three Stages
Assess
Understand the country's current coaching capability, structure and gaps.
Develop
Educate national Race Coaches, Advanced Race Coaches and Elite Race Coaches.
Transfer
Develop local Course Leaders so national coach education becomes sustainable.
Many developing alpine nations rely heavily on foreign coaches for national-team and international racing programs. This can provide immediate technical expertise, but it does not automatically create a sustainable national coaching system. ARCI National Coach Development Programs are designed to transfer that expertise into the country.
The Progression
The long-term objective is to create a permanent national coaching foundation capable of supporting junior development, U16, FIS and eventually high-performance athletes.
Adaptation to the Existing National Structure
Existing national coach education can remain in place.
Existing instructor qualifications can be recognized as prior learning where appropriate.
Existing coaching qualifications can be assessed for equivalence.
ARCI supplies the alpine ski race-specific technical component.
The federation retains control of its national coaching license and national professional recognition.
National safeguarding, legal, federation and sport-governance modules remain under national responsibility.
ARCI and the federation can create a jointly structured pathway.
ARCI qualifications remain international ARCI qualifications. The national federation may separately issue its own national coaching level or professional recognition. This structure allows the ARCI qualification to remain portable internationally while the national federation retains authority over national coaching status.
ARCI qualifications do not automatically replace national legal coaching licenses. National recognition is issued at the discretion of the relevant national federation or authority.
Candidate Identification
Former racers, ski instructors, existing club coaches, national-team staff and other suitable candidates can enter through the appropriate route.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Existing national qualifications and relevant experience can be assessed to determine the correct ARCI entry qualification.
ARCI Alpine Ski Race Coach
For coaches working with developing racers from U10 to U14, and developing U16 racers.
Verified Coaching Experience
Coaches build practical experience within clubs, academies or federation programs.
ARCI Advanced Alpine Ski Race Coach
Designed for coaches working primarily with U16 and FIS-level athletes.
ARCI Elite Alpine Ski Race Coach
High-performance education for coaches operating toward national-team, Continental Cup, World Cup and Olympic-level environments.
Ongoing Mentoring
Certified ARCI coaches remain connected to an assigned mentor and the wider ARCI coaching community.
Continuing Professional Development
Annual education, specialist modules and Current ARCI Status certification support continued development.
Train-the-Trainer
As the program matures, selected national coaches can be prepared to become mentors, educators and Course Leaders.
A country does not need domestic alpine training infrastructure to build a strong national coaching system.
Online education
Domestic theoretical sessions
Indoor snow or artificial-slope preparation where available
European glacier training
International race environments
Federation training camps
Season-long mentoring
This makes the model particularly suitable for smaller ski nations, developing winter-sport nations and countries whose athletes already train abroad.

Developing Ski Nations
Countries building their first structured alpine ski racing pathway.
Small National Federations
Federations that have athletes and clubs but do not have enough scale to maintain a complete specialist race-coach academy.
International Training Nations
Countries whose athletes already train predominantly in the Alps or other international centers.
Federations Using Foreign Coaches
National programs seeking to progressively develop national coaches and reduce long-term dependence on imported expertise.
Existing Coach-Education Systems
Countries that already have general coach education but require deeper alpine ski race-specific progression.
Olympic & FIS Development Programs
Countries investing in long-term athlete development and requiring a corresponding national coaching pathway.
Race-specific coach curriculum
International Course Leaders
On-snow education
Technical and tactical race coaching
Junior athlete development
U16 and FIS progression
Course setting
Video and performance analysis
Physical preparation integration
Mental-performance integration
Race-equipment education
Coach assessment
Recognition of prior learning
Season mentoring
Annual CPD
Digital learning
Coach certification
Coach registry and Current ARCI Status
Train-the-Trainer development
Support designing national qualification equivalencies
The aim is to create a coaching pathway that can remain within the country for future generations of athletes and coaches.
ARCI can work directly with federations and national sports organizations to assess the current coaching structure, identify gaps and design an appropriate national development pathway. Programs can range from integrating individual ARCI qualification levels into an existing national system to developing a complete race-coach pathway from junior development through high performance.
