What certification requires

Attending the course does not by itself produce a qualification. Every requirement below is met before ARCI issues certification.

01Meet the entry requirements before the course begins
02Complete the online program — two live online days in the week before the on-snow block
03Complete the on-snow and classroom block in full
04Pass the skiing demonstration examination
05Pass the knowledge assessment
06Pass the practical coaching assessment on snow, observed with real athletes
07Be assessed by more than one member of ARCI staff

Assessment standard

The candidate skis, sees and coaches a developing racer to the ARCI Alpine Ski Race Coach standard. Cross-blocking is not a mandatory pass criterion at ARCI Alpine Ski Race Coach — candidates are exposed to long-gate SL and blocking concepts, but lack of cross-blocking proficiency alone does not prevent certification where all other required standards are met.

Knowledge, skiing and practical coaching

Personal skiing

A formal skiing demonstration examination forms a major part of certification. Cross-blocking is taught and is not a pass criterion at this level.

After certification

The qualification is permanent once earned. Current ARCI Status is a separate annual registration that places the coach on the public registry as QUALIFIED · CURRENT and keeps the assigned mentor, the ARCI Coach Desk and continuing development open.

A coach who does not renew keeps the qualification and appears as QUALIFIED · INACTIVE until the annual fee is paid again.
